Farmer Empowerment for Innovation in Smallholder Agriculture (FEISA) project

The programme covers a period of 2year from 2011-2013 supported by ASARECA

Scope

It covers 3 counties namely; Meru central, Kiambu, Marakwet

Objective

The main objective is Capacity building of farmers’ organizations to enhance facilitation for market-led innovation in smallholder agriculture” in the four countries-Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda and Ethiopia.

  • Apex farmer organizations are to be trained and coached on how to facilitate business development along agricultural producer value chains.
  • The apex farmer organizations to
  • link their member organizations, which are grassroots farmer organizations to service providers in response to pre-determined needs identified through self-assessment

AIMS

  • To obtain tools and skills to assess Farmer organization (FOs) functioning, followed by organizational change to improve their management and governance at all levels
  • To improve farmers organizations participation in the value chains
  • To enhance collaboration with service providers from public, private and non-governmental sectors as well as private enterprises in a multi-stakeholders processes

Output

  • Capacity of apex farmer organizations to provide member-oriented services enhanced,
  • Capacity of grassroots Farmer Organizations to engage in priority value chains has been enhanced,
  • Operational innovation triangles around the priority value chains are in place and facilitated by apex farmer organizations, and
  • Lessons learned from the operational innovation triangles documented and shared
